New classes sprouting

You may have heard – since I’ve practically been shouting it from the rooftops – that I’m teaching classes online for the fab crew at Creative Bug.  I feel so honored to have a place among teachers & makers I really respect like Cal Patch, Rebecca Ringquist, Diana Fayt ... I could go on forever!
Here's a sweet video they made to introduce yours truly to the world.  It feels extra special because the music for it it is done by Richard Buckner (how lucky am I?!)

It has been super fun working with Creative Bug and I’m excited for even more classes to launch.  As of now, you can Learn to Knit  – English & Continental style, or for those who have the basics down; take an Intro to Lace class with me and learn to make a Little Something...

Today a new class launches and it‘s one of my favorite techniques to both knit and teach, double knitting.

Double Knit Sprout Cowl with Jill Draper on Creativebug from Creativebug on Vimeo.

Double knitting is way to make a reversible fabric with stockinette on both sides and because of the way it’s made, colorwork is a breeze with no ends to weave in and no floats on the “wrong side”.  I’ve been teaching this class in person and LOVE seeing the finished cowls, I can’t wait to see what color combinations my online students pick! You can check out some lovely finished cowls on Ravelry.

To celebrate the newest class launch, Creative Bug has agreed to generously give away a 3 month subscription and I'm sweetening the pot a little by including some Jill Draper Makes Stuff yarn for whichever class of mine you decide to take first!

Just leave a comment below with which class you would love to take and why and then go here and enter your email address. Easy, right?!

  1. Oooh ooh! Can't resist entering this one! I've been wanting to take your "unknitting" class since as a fairly novice knitter when I go wrong I still panic. But I've heard of double knitting, and it does sound really intriguing as well. But if push came to shove, I think unknitting would be the way I'd need to go first. :)

  2. I want to take the Double Knitting Sprout Cowl class because it is so warm and gorgeous and I love taking class with you, Jill, and it would go fabulously with my warm thrummed mittens and because of my crazy schedule I can only take classes late at night and browsing 20 you tube videos to find just the right knitting instruction is getting old!

  7. Wow, what an amazing giveaway!

I learned how to knit over 5 years ago. I became fanatic about it when I moved to a new area in Northern Michigan, due to a military move. I was so nervous being in a new areaof the country. Knitting became my savior, it's how I was welcomed into the community, made new friends, and helped keep the long winter blues away. I then became pregnant with my first child, and it soothed my anxieties of being a new Mom. The wool in my fingers soothed my soul. After having my son, I out my needles away, I was so busy. I am nit sure why I did, but I did. I see patterns that I would like to try and wonder if I can still remember the feeling of wool in my fingers again, by having the creative bug videos it helps a right brain person who is not so good at reading mathmatical numbers, and a foreign like language. I am more a video gal, or show me person. Once I see it, I get it. I am thrilled about the possibility of creative bug. I can watch at my own time, while my son is napping I can step into the craft world again. Thanks! I would love the take the beginning knit class, the basket weave pattern, but also the lace shawl intrigues me.

  8. Well, I would have to get acquainted with the basics of knitting again, with a basic knitting class first, since it's been far too long since I tried (as a teenager actually!) Seemed easier then! I am brand new to Creative Bug as well so great giveaway for me! Thanks for the opportunity.

  9. I'd be interested in Double Knitting. I used it once long ago to make pockets in a sweater, but I haven't tried it with colorwork.

  11. Just adding a comment from your Intro to Lace Knitting workshop on Creativebug!

Hi Jill, My name is James Monroe and I'm new to creativebug : ). This whole site is AWSOME! I clicked on your blog to leave a comment for the contest and wasn't able to leave a comment there so I'm leaving one here if that is okay. If I won the contest I'd want to make the, Little something. Its wonderful. I like making triangles and have made them in garter stitch as neck warmers/scarfs. This lace - little something is really nice. I can see myself wearing a smaller version of this at work when it gets cold.
